THE GOD WHO CARES FOR YOU

THE GOD WHO CARES FOR YOU

Psalm 139

by Rev. Richard Jones

GOD KNOWS US INTIMATELY
Psalm 139:1-6 (ESV)

1  O LORD, you have searched me and known me!  2  You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3  You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4  Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. 5  You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.

Matthew 10:29-31 (ESV)
29  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
30  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
31  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Hebrews 4:13 (ESV)
13  And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

GOD IS WITH US CONSTANTLY
Psalm 139:7-12 (ESV)

7  Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
8  If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
9  If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,                      10  even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
11  If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,”
12  even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
10  fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

GOD MADE US WONDERFULLY
Psalm 139:13-18 (ESV)

13  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
15  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.                                                                                                                  16  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
17  How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18  If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.

Psalm 8:3-5 (ESV)
3  When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4  what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
5  Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

Jeremiah 1:4-5 (ESV)
4  Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Psalm 3:5 (ESV)
5  I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me.

GOD JUDGES ALL RIGHTEOUSLY
Psalm 139:19-22 (ESV)

19  Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me! 20  They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain. 21  Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? 22  I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (ESV)
16  There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
17  haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18  a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,
19  a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Romans 12:9 (ESV)
9  Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.

2 Thessalonians 1:5-9 (ESV)
5  This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— 6  since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7  and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels 8  in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9  They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

GOD GUIDES US LOVINGLY
Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

23  Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
24  And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Isaiah 40:27-31 (ESV)
27  Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”?
28  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.                                                                                                                                       29  He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30  Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
31  but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
