Our Eternal Journey

Matthew 7:13-20

Matthew 7:13-20 (NASB)
13  “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
14  For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15  “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
16  You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
17  So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
18  A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
19  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20  So then, you will know them by their fruits.

C.S. Lewis, in his book, The Screwtape Letters said:

“The safest road to hell is the gradual one,

the gentle slope, soft underfoot,

without sudden turnings,

without milestones, without signposts!”

I. Man’s Destruction … ” Exit from life “

vs. 13

Three (3) Questions:

1. Where do you start?

“A wide gate and a broad way …”

2. What are the results?

” …leads to destruction …”

3. Who gets involved?

” …many who enter …”

NOTE … Question … “How can this happen to people?”

Answer … It can occur from who we listen to and believe in!

Three Truths about False Prophets

1. False prophets are not what they appear to be … Matthew 7:15

(they appear “harmless” but are “harmful”)

Ref. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

2. False Prophets can be better seen than heard … Matthew 7:16-18

(their lives are a “revelation” and a “production”)

Ref. Jeremiah 23:1-2

3. False Prophets will always get what is coming to them … Matthew 7:19-20

(they will be judged and identified for what they say and do)

Ref. Deuteronomy 13:1-5

II. Christ’s Instruction … “Enter Into Life”

vs. 14

Three (3) Questions

1. Where do you start?

“A small gate and a narrow way …”

2. What are the results?

” … leads to life …”

3. Who gets involved?

” … and few that enter …”
