Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-9907-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/09-20-2026.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/09-20-2026.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/09-20-2026.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>By What Authority?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Luke 20:1-8 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0One day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and said to him, \u201cTell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He answered them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cI also will ask you a question. Now tell me,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">was the baptism of John from heaven or from man?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they discussed it with one another, saying, \u201cIf we say, \u2018From heaven,\u2019 he will say, \u2018Why did you not believe him?\u2019<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But if we say, \u2018From man,\u2019 all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they answered that they did not know where it came from.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cNeither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>By What Action?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Luke 20:9-19 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And he began to tell the people this parable: <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cA man planted a vineyard and let it out to tenants and went into another country for a long while.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And he sent another servant. But they also beat and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And he sent yet a third. This one also they wounded and cast out.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Then the owner of the vineyard said, \u2018What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.\u2019<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, \u2018This is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.\u2019<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.\u201d<\/span> When they heard this, they said, \u201cSurely not!\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he looked directly at them and said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhat then is this that is written:<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201c\u2018The stone that the builders rejected<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\"><span class=\"JesusWords\">has become the cornerstone\u2019?<\/span><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"noindent\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour, for they perceived that he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jeremiah 7:25-26 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.<\/p>\n<p><b>Psalm 118:22-23 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The stone that the builders rejected <span class=\"poetry2\">has become the cornerstone.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0This is the LORD\u2019s doing; <span class=\"poetry2\">it is marvelous in our eyes.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Deuteronomy 32:4 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cThe Rock, his work is perfect, <span class=\"poetry2\">for all his ways are justice.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">just and upright is he.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Isaiah 28:16 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0therefore thus says the Lord <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">GOD<\/span>, <span class=\"poetry1\">\u201cBehold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">a stone, a tested stone,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">\u2018Whoever believes will not be in haste.\u2019<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ephesians 2:19-21 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.<\/p>\n<p><b>Isaiah 8:13-15 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But the LORD of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>By What Attitude?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Luke 20:20-26 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they watched him and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might catch him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they asked him, \u201cTeacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality, but truly teach the way of God.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cShow me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?\u201d<\/span> They said, \u201cCaesar\u2019s.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThen render to Caesar the things that are Caesar\u2019s, and to God the things that are God\u2019s.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him in what he said, but marveling at his answer they became silent.<\/p>\n<p><b>1 Peter 2:13-17 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Be subject for the Lord\u2019s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Trust in the LORD with all your heart, <span class=\"poetry2\">and do not lean on your own understanding.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In all your ways acknowledge him, <span class=\"poetry2\">and he will make straight your paths.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CHALLENGES and WISDOM Luke 20: 1-26 by Rev.
