A RULER, A DISCIPLE, and A BEGGAR<\/u><\/b><\/h1>\n

Luke 18: 18-43<\/b><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

A DISHONEST MAN<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:18-23 (ESV) <\/b>
\n18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And a ruler asked him, \u201cGood Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?\u201d
\n19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to him, \u201cWhy do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.<\/span>
\n20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0You know the commandments: \u2018Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.\u2019\u201d<\/span>
\n21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said, \u201cAll these I have kept from my youth.\u201d
\n22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Jesus heard this, he said to him, \u201cOne thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.\u201d<\/span>
\n23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.<\/span><\/p>\n

Psalm 34:8 (ESV) <\/b>
\n8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 19:16-22 (ESV) <\/b>
\n16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And behold, a man came up to him, saying, \u201cTeacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?\u201d
\n17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to him, \u201cWhy do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.\u201d<\/span>
\n18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said to him, \u201cWhich ones?\u201d And Jesus said, \u201cYou shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,<\/span>
\n19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u201d<\/span>
\n20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The young man said to him, \u201cAll these I have kept. What do I still lack?\u201d
\n21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Jesus said to him, \u201cIf you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.\u201d<\/span>
\n22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A DIFFICULT PATH<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:24-27 (ESV) <\/b>
\n24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, \u201cHow difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!<\/span>
\n25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span>
\n26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Those who heard it said, \u201cThen who can be saved?\u201d
\n27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he said, \u201cWhat is impossible with man is possible with God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A DOUBLE BLESSING<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:28-30 (ESV) <\/b>
\n28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Peter said, \u201cSee, we have left our homes and followed you.\u201d
\n29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, \u201cTruly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,<\/span>
\n30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A DETAILED PREDICTION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:31-34 (ESV) <\/b>
\n31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And taking the twelve, he said to them, \u201cSee, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.<\/span>
\n32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon.<\/span>
\n33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.\u201d<\/span>
\n34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A DETERMINED BEGGAR<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:35-43 (ESV) <\/b>
\n35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
\n36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.
\n37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They told him, \u201cJesus of Nazareth is passing by.\u201d
\n38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he cried out, \u201cJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!\u201d
\n39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, \u201cSon of David, have mercy on me!\u201d
\n40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,
\n41 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cWhat do you want me to do for you?\u201d<\/span> He said, \u201cLord, let me recover my sight.\u201d
\n42 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to him, \u201cRecover your sight; your faith has made you well.\u201d<\/span>
\n43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mark 10:46-52 (ESV) <\/b>
\n46 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.
\n47 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, \u201cJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!\u201d
\n48 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, \u201cSon of David, have mercy on me!\u201d
