A Demanding Widow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:1-8 (ESV) <\/b>
\n1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
\n2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said, \u201cIn a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.<\/span>
\n3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, \u2018Give me justice against my adversary.\u2019<\/span>
\n4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, \u2018Though I neither fear God nor respect man,<\/span>
\n5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.\u2019\u201d<\/span>
\n6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the Lord said, \u201cHear what the unrighteous judge says.<\/span>
\n7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?<\/span>
\n8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ephesians 2:18 (ESV) <\/b>
\n18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.<\/p>\n

\n1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.<\/span><\/p>\n

Romans 8:26-27 (ESV) <\/b>
\n26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
\n27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.<\/p>\n

A Deluded Pharisee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:9-14 (ESV) <\/b>
\n9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt:
\n10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cTwo men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.<\/span>
\n11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: \u2018God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.<\/span>
\n12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.\u2019<\/span>
\n13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, \u2018God, be merciful to me, a sinner!\u2019<\/span>
\n14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

James 4:6 (ESV) <\/b>
\n6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, \u201cGod opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.\u201d<\/p>\n

Philippians 3:7-9 (ESV) <\/b>
\n7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
\n8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
\n9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith\u2014<\/p>\n

Psalm 51:17 (ESV) <\/b>
\n17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Decisive Example<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 18:15-17 (ESV) <\/b>
\n15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
\n16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Jesus called them to him, saying, \u201cLet the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.<\/span>
\n17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
