Luke 3: 21 – 4:1-13<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Identifying with Sinners<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 3: 21-23<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, \u201cYou are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.\u201d 23 Jesus, when He began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,<\/p>\n

Matthew 3: 13-15<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented Him, saying, \u201cI need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?\u201d 15 But Jesus answered him, \u201cLet it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.\u201d Then he consented.<\/p>\n

John 1: 31-34<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that He might be revealed to Israel.\u201d 32 And John bore witness: \u201cI saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him. 33 I myself did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, \u2018He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.\u2019 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.\u201d<\/p>\n

Isaiah 11: 1-2<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.<\/p>\n

Resisting the Devil<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Luke 4: 1- 13<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to Him, \u201cIf you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.\u201d 4 And Jesus answered him, \u201cIt is written, \u2018Man shall not live by bread alone.\u2019\u201d 5 And the devil took Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to Him, \u201cTo you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.\u201d 8 And Jesus answered him, \u201cIt is written, \u201c\u2018You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.\u2019\u201d9 And he took Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to Him, \u201cIf you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10 for it is written, \u201c\u2018He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,\u2019 11 and \u201c\u2018On their hands they will bear you up lest you strike your foot against a stone.\u2019\u201d 12 And Jesus answered him, \u201cIt is said, \u2018You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.\u2019\u201d 13 And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.<\/p>\n

Psalm 2: 7-8<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

7I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, \u201cYou are my Son; today I have begotten you.8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.<\/p>\n

Isaiah 14: 12-15<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

12 \u201cHow you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! 13 You said in your heart, \u2018I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.\u2019 15 But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.<\/p>\n

2 Timothy 2: 15<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.<\/p>\n

1 John 2: 16<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

16 For all that is in the world\u2014the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life\u2014is not from the Father but is from the world.<\/p>\n

Hebrews 2: 18<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

18 For because He himself has suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.<\/p>\n
