Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59\u00a0 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60\u00a0 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.<br \/>\n61\u00a0 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<u>TREMORS TO TERROR<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28:2-4 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n2\u00a0 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3\u00a0 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.\u00a0\u00a0 4\u00a0 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 27:62-66 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n62\u00a0 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63\u00a0 and said, \u201cSir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, \u2018After three days I will rise.\u2019 64\u00a0 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, \u2018He has risen from the dead,\u2019 and the last fraud will be worse than the first.\u201d 65\u00a0 Pilate said to them, \u201cYou have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.\u201d 66\u00a0 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>COMFORT TO COMMISSION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28:5-8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n5\u00a0 But the angel said to the women, \u201cDo not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6\u00a0 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7\u00a0 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.\u201d<br \/>\n8\u00a0 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28: 8-10<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9\u00a0 And behold, Jesus met them and said, \u201cGreetings!\u201d And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10\u00a0 Then Jesus said to them, \u201cDo not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>REACTIONS TO THE RESURRECTION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:9-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n9\u00a0 and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10\u00a0 Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11\u00a0 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John 20:19-21 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n19\u00a0 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d 20\u00a0 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21\u00a0 Jesus said to them again, \u201cPeace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28:11-15 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n11\u00a0 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12\u00a0 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers\u00a0 13\u00a0 and said, \u201cTell people, \u2018His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.\u2019 14\u00a0 And if this comes to the governor\u2019s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15\u00a0 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>REASONS FOR THE RESURRECTION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>John 10:17-18 (ESV) <\/strong><br \/>\n17\u00a0 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18\u00a0 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n3\u00a0 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,<br \/>\n4\u00a0 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 16:21 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n21\u00a0 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John 11:25 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n25\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cI am the resurrection and the life.
