And Saul had put the mediums and the necromancers out of the land.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4\u00a0 The Philistines assembled and came and encamped at Shunem. And Saul gathered all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa. 5\u00a0 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. 6\u00a0 And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n9\u00a0 \u201cWhen you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations.<br \/>\n10\u00a0 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer<br \/>\n11\u00a0 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, 12\u00a0 for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you.<br \/>\n13\u00a0 You shall be blameless before the LORD your God,<br \/>\n14\u00a0 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leviticus 20:27 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n27\u00a0 \u201cA man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE SIN OF SAUL<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 28:7-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n7\u00a0 Then Saul said to his servants, \u201cSeek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.\u201d And his servants said to him, \u201cBehold, there is a medium at En-dor.\u201d 8\u00a0 So Saul disguised himself and put on other garments and went, he and two men with him. And they came to the woman by night. And he said, \u201cDivine for me by a spirit and bring up for me whomever I shall name to you.\u201d 9\u00a0 The woman said to him, \u201cSurely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the necromancers from the land. Why then are you laying a trap for my life to bring about my death?\u201d<br \/>\n10\u00a0 But Saul swore to her by the LORD, \u201cAs the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.\u201d<br \/>\n11\u00a0 Then the woman said, \u201cWhom shall I bring up for you?\u201d He said, \u201cBring up Samuel for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 8:19 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n19\u00a0 And when they say to you, \u201cInquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,\u201d should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leviticus 20:6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n6\u00a0 \u201cIf a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE SPIRIT OF SAMUEL<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 28:12-14 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n12\u00a0 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman said to Saul, \u201cWhy have you deceived me? You are Saul.\u201d 13\u00a0 The king said to her, \u201cDo not be afraid. What do you see?\u201d And the woman said to Saul, \u201cI see a god coming up out of the earth.\u201d 14\u00a0 He said to her, \u201cWhat is his appearance?\u201d And she said, \u201cAn old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe.\u201d And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid homage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE SPEECH OF THE PROPHET<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 28:15-19 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n15\u00a0 Then Samuel said to Saul, \u201cWhy have you disturbed me by bringing me up?\u201d Saul answered, \u201cI am in great distress, for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams. Therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do.\u201d 16\u00a0 And Samuel said, \u201cWhy then do you ask me, since the LORD has turned from you and become your enemy? 17\u00a0 The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me, for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, David. 18\u00a0 Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD and did not carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day.<br \/>\n19\u00a0 Moreover, the LORD will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me. The LORD will give the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE SUPPLICATION OF THE WITCH<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 28:20-25 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n20\u00a0 Then Saul fell at once full length on the ground, filled with fear because of the words of Samuel. And there was no strength in him, for he had eaten nothing all day and all night. 21\u00a0 And the woman came to Saul, and when she saw that he was terrified, she said to him, \u201cBehold, your servant has obeyed you. I have taken my life in my hand and have listened to what you have said to me. 22\u00a0 Now therefore, you also obey your servant. Let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way.\u201d<br \/>\n23\u00a0 He refused and said, \u201cI will not eat.\u201d But his servants, together with the woman, urged him, and he listened to their words. So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed. 24\u00a0 Now the woman had a fattened calf in the house, and she quickly killed it, and she took flour and kneaded it and baked unleavened bread of it, 25\u00a0 and she put it before Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they rose and went away that night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE DARKNESS<\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u>1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 John 3:8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Acts 19:18-20 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n18\u00a0 Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices.<br \/>\n19\u00a0 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.<br \/>\n20\u00a0 So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Story of David (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
