There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Psalm 108:1-6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! 2\u00a0 Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! 3\u00a0 I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. 4\u00a0 For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. 5\u00a0 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! 6\u00a0 That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer me!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>DAVID THE FOREIGNER<\/u><u><br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 27:2-4 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n2\u00a0 So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3\u00a0 And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal\u2019s widow.\u00a0 4\u00a0 And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>DAVID THE SERVANT<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 27:5-7 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n5\u00a0 Then David said to Achish, \u201cIf I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?\u201d 6\u00a0 So that day Achish gave him Ziklag. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. 7\u00a0 And the number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>DAVID THE BANDIT<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 27:8-12 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 Now David and his men went up and made raids against the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites, for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt.\u00a0 \u00a09\u00a0 And David would strike the land and would leave neither man nor woman alive, but would take away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the garments, and come back to Achish. 10\u00a0 When Achish asked, \u201cWhere have you made a raid today?\u201d David would say, \u201cAgainst the Negeb of Judah,\u201d or, \u201cAgainst the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites,\u201d or, \u201cAgainst the Negeb of the Kenites.\u201d 11\u00a0 And David would leave neither man nor woman alive to bring news to Gath, thinking, \u201clest they should tell about us and say, \u2018So David has done.\u2019\u201d Such was his custom all the while he lived in the country of the Philistines.<br \/>\n12\u00a0 And Achish trusted David, thinking, \u201cHe has made himself an utter stench to his people Israel; therefore he shall always be my servant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>DAVID THE BODYGUARD<br \/>\n<\/u>1 Samuel 28:1-2 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 In those days the Philistines gathered their forces for war, to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David, \u201cUnderstand that you and your men are to go out with me in the army.\u201d<br \/>\n2\u00a0 David said to Achish, \u201cVery well, you shall know what your servant can do.\u201d And Achish said to David, \u201cVery well, I will make you my bodyguard for life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philippians 1:6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n6\u00a0 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Story of David (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
