The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2\u00a0 Beloved, we are God\u2019s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.\u00a0 3\u00a0 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 Corinthians 6:18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n18\u00a0 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Romans 8:29 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n29\u00a0 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 2:11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n11\u00a0 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 4:3-4 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n3\u00a0 For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.<br \/>\n4\u00a0 With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 2:14 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n14\u00a0 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philippians 3:20-21 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n20\u00a0 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,<br \/>\n21\u00a0 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE ATTACK ON RELATIONSHIP<br \/>\n<\/u>1 John 3:4-10 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n4\u00a0 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.<br \/>\n5\u00a0 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6\u00a0 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7\u00a0 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8\u00a0 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9\u00a0 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God\u2019s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. 10\u00a0 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 John 1:8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 John 1:9 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n9\u00a0 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0THE HEART OF RELATIONSHIP<\/u> <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1 John 3:11-18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n11\u00a0 For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12\u00a0 We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother\u2019s righteous. 13\u00a0 Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. 14\u00a0 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15\u00a0 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16\u00a0 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.\u00a0 17\u00a0 But if anyone has the world\u2019s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God\u2019s love abide in him?\u00a0 18\u00a0 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James 2:15-16 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n15\u00a0 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,<br \/>\n16\u00a0 and one of you says to them, \u201cGo in peace, be warmed and filled,\u201d without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Galatians 6:10 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n10\u00a0 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Letters From John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
