Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE SHOCK OF AN EMPTY TOMB<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>John chapter 20<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7370-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/08-07-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/08-07-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/08-07-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE GREAT DISCOVERY<br \/>\n<\/u>John 20:1-10 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2\u00a0 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, \u201cThey have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.\u201d<br \/>\n3\u00a0 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4\u00a0 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5\u00a0 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6\u00a0 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7\u00a0 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus\u2019 head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8\u00a0 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9\u00a0 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10\u00a0 Then the disciples went back to their homes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28:2-4 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n2\u00a0 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.<br \/>\n3\u00a0 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.<br \/>\n4\u00a0 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE GREAT RECOGNITION<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 20:11-18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n11\u00a0 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12\u00a0 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13\u00a0 They said to her, \u201cWoman, why are you weeping?\u201d She said to them, \u201cThey have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.\u201d 14\u00a0 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cWoman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?\u201d Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, \u201cSir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.\u201d 16\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cMary.\u201d She turned and said to him in Aramaic, \u201cRabboni!\u201d (which means Teacher). 17\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cDo not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, \u2018I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.\u2019\u201d<br \/>\n18\u00a0 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, \u201cI have seen the Lord\u201d\u2014and that he had said these things to her.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 16:9-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n9 Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. 10\u00a0 She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11\u00a0 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0THE GREAT INTERRUPTION<\/u><u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 20:19-23 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n19\u00a0 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d<br \/>\n20\u00a0 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21\u00a0 Jesus said to them again, \u201cPeace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.\u201d 22\u00a0 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, \u201cReceive the Holy Spirit. 23\u00a0 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE GREAT CONFESSION<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 20:24-29 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n24\u00a0 Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25\u00a0 So the other disciples told him, \u201cWe have seen the Lord.\u201d But he said to them, \u201cUnless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.\u201d 26\u00a0 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d 27\u00a0 Then he said to Thomas, \u201cPut your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.\u201d<br \/>\n28\u00a0 Thomas answered him, \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d<br \/>\n29\u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cHave you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 1:8-9 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n8\u00a0 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,<br \/>\n9\u00a0 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE GREAT PURPOSE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 20:30-31 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n30\u00a0 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;<br \/>\n31\u00a0 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
