It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor\u2019s headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover.<br \/>\n29\u00a0 So Pilate went outside to them and said, \u201cWhat accusation do you bring against this man?&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a030\u00a0 They answered him, \u201cIf this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.\u201d<br \/>\n31\u00a0 Pilate said to them, \u201cTake him yourselves and judge him by your own law.\u201d The Jews said to him, \u201cIt is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.\u201d<br \/>\n32\u00a0 This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PILATE QUESTIONED JESUS<br \/>\n<\/u>John 18:33-40 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n33\u00a0 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, \u201cAre you the King of the Jews?\u201d<br \/>\n34\u00a0 Jesus answered, \u201cDo you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?\u201d<br \/>\n35\u00a0 Pilate answered, \u201cAm I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a036\u00a0 Jesus answered, \u201cMy kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.\u201d<br \/>\n37\u00a0 Then Pilate said to him, \u201cSo you are a king?\u201d Jesus answered, \u201cYou say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world\u2014to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 38\u00a0 Pilate said to him, \u201cWhat is truth?\u201d After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, \u201cI find no guilt in him.<br \/>\n39\u00a0 But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?\u201d<br \/>\n40\u00a0 They cried out again, \u201cNot this man, but Barabbas!\u201d Now Barabbas was a robber.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 15:6-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n6\u00a0 Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked. 7\u00a0 And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. 8\u00a0 And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. 9\u00a0 And he answered them, saying, \u201cDo you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?\u201d 10\u00a0 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. 11\u00a0 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0PILATE TORTURED JESUS<\/u><u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 19:1-6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him.<br \/>\n2\u00a0 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe.<br \/>\n3\u00a0 They came up to him, saying, \u201cHail, King of the Jews!\u201d and struck him with their hands. 4\u00a0 Pilate went out again and said to them, \u201cSee, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.\u201d<br \/>\n5\u00a0 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, \u201cBehold the man!\u201d 6\u00a0 When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, \u201cCrucify him, crucify him!\u201d Pilate said to them, \u201cTake him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 50:6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n6\u00a0 I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 3:17-18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n17\u00a0 And to Adam he said, \u201cBecause you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, \u2018You shall not eat of it,\u2019 cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18\u00a0 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PILATE FEARED JESUS<br \/>\n<\/u>John 19:7-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n7\u00a0 The Jews answered him, \u201cWe have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.\u201d<br \/>\n8\u00a0 When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid.<br \/>\n9\u00a0 He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, \u201cWhere are you from?\u201d But Jesus gave him no answer.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 10\u00a0 So Pilate said to him, \u201cYou will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?\u201d<br \/>\n11\u00a0 Jesus answered him, \u201cYou would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>John 1:10-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n10\u00a0 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.<br \/>\n11\u00a0 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PILATE CONDEMNED JESUS<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 19:12-16 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n12\u00a0 From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, \u201cIf you release this man, you are not Caesar\u2019s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.\u201d<br \/>\n13\u00a0 So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a014\u00a0 Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, \u201cBehold your King!\u201d<br \/>\n15\u00a0 They cried out, \u201cAway with him, away with him, crucify him!\u201d Pilate said to them, \u201cShall I crucify your King?\u201d The chief priests answered, \u201cWe have no king but Caesar.\u201d<br \/>\n16\u00a0 So he delivered him over to them to be crucified.
