Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE SOVEREIGN SERVANT<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>John 13: 1-35<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7274-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-29-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-29-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-29-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE HUMILITY OF LOVE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 13:1-5 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.2\u00a0 During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of\u00a0 Judas Iscariot, Simon\u2019s son, to betray him, 3\u00a0 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,<br \/>\n4\u00a0 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5\u00a0 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples\u2019 feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Philippians 2:3-8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n3\u00a0 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4\u00a0 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5\u00a0 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6\u00a0 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7\u00a0 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8\u00a0 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE FELLOWSHIP OF LOVE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 13:6-11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n6\u00a0 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, \u201cLord, do you wash my feet?\u201d<br \/>\n7\u00a0 Jesus answered him, \u201cWhat I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.\u201d<br \/>\n8\u00a0 Peter said to him, \u201cYou shall never wash my feet.\u201d Jesus answered him, \u201cIf I do not wash you, you have no share with me.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a09\u00a0 Simon Peter said to him, \u201cLord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!\u201d<br \/>\n10\u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cThe one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.\u201d<br \/>\n11\u00a0 For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, \u201cNot all of you are clean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong> 1 John 1:7-9 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n7\u00a0 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.<br \/>\n8\u00a0 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.<br \/>\n9\u00a0 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE MODEL OF LOVE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 13:12-17 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n12\u00a0 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, \u201cDo you understand what I have done to you?<br \/>\n13\u00a0 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 14\u00a0 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another\u2019s feet.<br \/>\n15\u00a0 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.<br \/>\n16\u00a0 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.<br \/>\n17\u00a0 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE APPEAL OF LOVE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 13:18-30 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n18\u00a0 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, \u2018He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.\u2019<br \/>\n19\u00a0 I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. 20\u00a0 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 21\u00a0 After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.\u201d<br \/>\n22\u00a0 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke.<br \/>\n23\u00a0 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus\u2019 side,<br \/>\n24\u00a0 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.<br \/>\n25\u00a0 So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, \u201cLord, who is it?\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 26\u00a0 Jesus answered, \u201cIt is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.\u201d So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27\u00a0 Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, \u201cWhat you are going to do, do quickly.\u201d 28\u00a0 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. 29\u00a0 Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, \u201cBuy what we need for the feast,\u201d or that he should give something to the poor. 30\u00a0 So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Psalm 41:9 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n9\u00a0 Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE COMMAND OF LOVE<br \/>\n<\/u>John 13:31-35 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n31\u00a0 When he had gone out, Jesus said, \u201cNow is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.<br \/>\n32\u00a0 If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. 33\u00a0 Little children, yet a little while I am with you.\u00a0 You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, \u2018Where I am going you cannot come.\u2019<br \/>\n34\u00a0 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.<br \/>\n35\u00a0 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
