Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE WAKE UP WONDER<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>John Chapter 11: 1-54<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7237-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-08-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-08-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/05-08-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF FRIENDSHIP<br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:1-6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2\u00a0 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. 3\u00a0 So the sisters sent to him, saying, \u201cLord, he whom you love is ill.\u201d 4\u00a0 But when Jesus heard it he said, \u201cThis illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.\u201d<br \/>\n5\u00a0 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6\u00a0 So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF MISUNDERSTANDING<br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:7-16 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n7\u00a0 Then after this he said to the disciples, \u201cLet us go to Judea again.\u201d 8\u00a0 The disciples said to him, \u201cRabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?\u201d 9\u00a0 Jesus answered, \u201cAre there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10\u00a0 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.\u201d 11\u00a0 After saying these things, he said to them, \u201cOur friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.\u201d 12\u00a0 The disciples said to him, \u201cLord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.\u201d 13\u00a0 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. 14\u00a0 Then Jesus told them plainly, \u201cLazarus has died, 15\u00a0 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.\u201d 16\u00a0 So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, \u201cLet us also go, that we may die with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF SORROW<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:17-22 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n17\u00a0 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18\u00a0 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19\u00a0 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20\u00a0 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21\u00a0 Martha said to Jesus, \u201cLord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22\u00a0 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0A TIME OF FAITH<br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:23-27 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n23\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cYour brother will rise again.\u201d<br \/>\n24\u00a0 Martha said to him, \u201cI know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.\u201d 25\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cI am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26\u00a0 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?\u201d 27\u00a0 She said to him, \u201cYes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF EMOTION<br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:28-37 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n28\u00a0 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, \u201cThe Teacher is here and is calling for you.\u201d 29\u00a0 And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him. 30\u00a0 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. 31\u00a0 When the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32\u00a0 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, \u201cLord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.\u201d 33\u00a0 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. 34\u00a0 And he said, \u201cWhere have you laid him?\u201d They said to him, \u201cLord, come and see.\u201d 35\u00a0 Jesus wept. 36\u00a0 So the Jews said, \u201cSee how he loved him!\u201d 37\u00a0 But some of them said, \u201cCould not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF AUTHORITY<br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:38-44 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n38\u00a0 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cTake away the stone.\u201d Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, \u201cLord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.\u201d<br \/>\n40\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cDid I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?\u201d41\u00a0 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, \u201cFather, I thank you that you have heard me. 42\u00a0 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.\u201d43\u00a0 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, \u201cLazarus, come out.\u201d 44\u00a0 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, \u201cUnbind him, and let him go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TIME OF REJECTION<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 11:45-54 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n45\u00a0 Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, 46\u00a0 but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47\u00a0 So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and said, \u201cWhat are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48\u00a0 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.\u201d 49\u00a0 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, \u201cYou know nothing at all.\u00a0 50\u00a0 Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.\u201d 51\u00a0 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,\u00a0 \u00a0 52\u00a0 and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53\u00a0 So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. 54\u00a0 Jesus therefore no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
