Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">March 17, 2022<\/h2>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7206-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/04-17-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/04-17-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/04-17-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SADNESS TOWARD THE SUNSET<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:13-24 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>13\u00a0 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 14\u00a0 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15\u00a0 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16\u00a0 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17\u00a0 And he said to them, \u201cWhat is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?\u201d And they stood still, looking sad. 18\u00a0 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, \u201cAre you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?\u201d\u00a0 19\u00a0 And he said to them, \u201cWhat things?\u201d And they said to him, \u201cConcerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20\u00a0 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified. 21\u00a0 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22\u00a0 Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, 23\u00a0 and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24\u00a0 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>STUDY OF THE SAVIOR<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:25-27 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>25\u00a0 And he said to them, \u201cO foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26\u00a0 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?\u201d 27\u00a0 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Psalm 22:14-18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n14\u00a0 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; 15\u00a0 my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. 16\u00a0 For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet\u2014 17\u00a0 I can count all my bones\u2014 they stare and gloat over me; 18\u00a0 they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Isaiah 53:3-6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n3\u00a0 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4\u00a0 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5\u00a0 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6\u00a0 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned\u2014every one\u2014to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SERVED BY THE SOVEREIGN<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:28-32 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>28\u00a0 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,\u00a0 \u00a029\u00a0 but they urged him strongly, saying, \u201cStay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.\u201d So he went in to stay with them. 30\u00a0 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.<br \/>\n31\u00a0 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32\u00a0 They said to each other, \u201cDid not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SHARING THE SURPRISE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:33-35 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>33\u00a0 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34\u00a0 saying, \u201cThe Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!\u201d 35\u00a0 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SHOCK IN THE SERVANTS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:36-43 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>36\u00a0 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, \u201cPeace to you!\u201d 37\u00a0 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38\u00a0 And he said to them, \u201cWhy are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39\u00a0 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.\u201d 40\u00a0 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41\u00a0 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, \u201cHave you anything here to eat?\u201d 42\u00a0 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43\u00a0 and he took it and ate before them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SERMON ON THE SCRIPTURES<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 24:44-49 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>44\u00a0 Then he said to them, \u201cThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.\u201d 45\u00a0 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46\u00a0 and said to them, \u201cThus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47\u00a0 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48\u00a0 You are witnesses of these things. 49\u00a0 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you.
