Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>STRANGER AT THE WELL<\/u><\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>John 4: 1-42<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7121-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/02-13-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/02-13-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/02-13-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>A TRIP OF PURPOSE<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/u><strong>John 4:1-6 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2\u00a0 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3\u00a0 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4\u00a0 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5\u00a0 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6\u00a0 Jacob\u2019s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>\u00a0A TIME OF SURPRISE<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/u><strong>John 4:7-12 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n7\u00a0 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, \u201cGive me a drink.\u201d 8\u00a0 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9\u00a0 The Samaritan woman said to him, \u201cHow is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?\u201d (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10\u00a0 Jesus answered her, \u201cIf you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, \u2018Give me a drink,\u2019 you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.\u201d 11\u00a0 The woman said to him, \u201cSir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12\u00a0 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TRUTH OF MERCY<br \/>\n<\/u>John 4:13-18 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n13\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cEveryone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14\u00a0 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.\u201d 15\u00a0 The woman said to him, \u201cSir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.\u201d 16\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cGo, call your husband, and come here.\u201d<br \/>\n17\u00a0 The woman answered him, \u201cI have no husband.\u201d Jesus said to her, \u201cYou are right in saying, \u2018I have no husband\u2019; 18\u00a0 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TASTE OF EMBARRASSMENT<br \/>\n<\/u>John 4:19-26 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n19\u00a0 The woman said to him, \u201cSir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20\u00a0 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.\u201d 21\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cWoman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22\u00a0 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.<br \/>\n23\u00a0 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24\u00a0 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.\u201d<br \/>\n25\u00a0 The woman said to him, \u201cI know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.\u201d 26\u00a0 Jesus said to her, \u201cI who speak to you am he.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TESTIMONY OF WONDER<br \/>\n<\/u>John 4:27-30 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n27\u00a0 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, \u201cWhat do you seek?\u201d or, \u201cWhy are you talking with her?\u201d 28\u00a0 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29\u00a0 \u201cCome, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?\u201d 30\u00a0 They went out of the town and were coming to him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TEACHING OF OPPORTUNITY<br \/>\n<\/u>John 4:31-38 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n31\u00a0 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, \u201cRabbi, eat.\u201d 32\u00a0 But he said to them, \u201cI have food to eat that you do not know about.\u201d 33\u00a0 So the disciples said to one another, \u201cHas anyone brought him something to eat?\u201d 34\u00a0 Jesus said to them, \u201cMy food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35\u00a0 Do you not say, \u2018There are yet four months, then comes the harvest\u2019? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36\u00a0 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37\u00a0 For here the saying holds true, \u2018One sows and another reaps.\u2019 38\u00a0 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A TREASURE OF DISCOVERY<\/u> <u><br \/>\n<\/u>John 4:39-42 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n39\u00a0 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman\u2019s testimony, \u201cHe told me all that I ever did.\u201d 40\u00a0 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41\u00a0 And many more believed because of his word. 42\u00a0 They said to the woman, \u201cIt is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
