Richard Jones<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>MEET THE MESSIAH<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>John 1: 19-51<\/b><\/h2>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-7087-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/01-23-2022.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/01-23-2022.mp3\">http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/01-23-2022.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vs. 19-28\u00a0 \u00a0A COMMITTEE&#8217;S\u00a0QUESTIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>19\u00a0 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, \u201cWho are you?\u201d 20\u00a0 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, \u201cI am not the Christ.\u201d 21\u00a0 And they asked him, \u201cWhat then? Are you Elijah?\u201d He said, \u201cI am not.\u201d \u201cAre you the Prophet?\u201d And he answered, \u201cNo.\u201d 22\u00a0 So they said to him, \u201cWho are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?\u201d 23\u00a0 He said, \u201cI am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, \u2018Make straight the way of the Lord,\u2019 as the prophet Isaiah said.\u201d 24\u00a0 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25\u00a0 They asked him, \u201cThen why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?\u201d 26\u00a0 John answered them, \u201cI baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27\u00a0 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.\u201d 28\u00a0 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malachi 4: 5-6<\/strong><br \/>\n5\u00a0 \u201cBehold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.<br \/>\n6\u00a0 And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke 1:14-17 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n14\u00a0 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, 15\u00a0 for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother\u2019s womb. 16\u00a0 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 17\u00a0 and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy 18:15 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n15\u00a0 The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers &#8211; it is to him you shall listen-<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 40:3-5 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n3\u00a0 A voice cries: \u201cIn the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.<br \/>\n4\u00a0 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.<br \/>\n5\u00a0 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vs. 29-34\u00a0 \u00a0A PROPHET&#8217;S STATEMENTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3>29\u00a0 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, \u201cBehold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30\u00a0 This is he of whom I said, \u2018After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.\u2019 31\u00a0 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.\u201d 32\u00a0 And John bore witness: \u201cI saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.<br \/>\n33\u00a0 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, \u2018He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.\u2019 34\u00a0 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leviticus 17:11 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n11\u00a0 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 John 2:2 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n2\u00a0 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 11:1-2 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.<br \/>\n2\u00a0 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vs. 35-42\u00a0 \u00a0A PAIR&#8217;S RESPONSES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>35\u00a0 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36\u00a0 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, \u201cBehold, the Lamb of God!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 37\u00a0 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38\u00a0 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, \u201cWhat are you seeking?\u201d And they said to him, \u201cRabbi\u201d (which means Teacher), \u201cwhere are you staying?\u201d 39\u00a0 He said to them, \u201cCome and you will see.\u201d So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40\u00a0 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter\u2019s brother.<br \/>\n41\u00a0 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, \u201cWe have found the Messiah\u201d (which means Christ). 42\u00a0 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, \u201cYou are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas\u201d (which means Peter).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Vs. 43-51\u00a0 \u00a0A\u00a0 FRIEND&#8217;S WITNESS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>43\u00a0 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, \u201cFollow me.\u201d 44\u00a0 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45\u00a0 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, \u201cWe have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.\u201d 46\u00a0 Nathanael said to him, \u201cCan anything good come out of Nazareth?\u201d Philip said to him, \u201cCome and see.\u201d 47\u00a0 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, \u201cBehold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!\u201d 48\u00a0 Nathanael said to him, \u201cHow do you know me?\u201d Jesus answered him, \u201cBefore Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 49\u00a0 Nathanael answered him, \u201cRabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!\u201d 50\u00a0 Jesus answered him, \u201cBecause I said to you, \u2018I saw you under the fig tree,\u2019 do you believe? You will see greater things than these.\u201d 51\u00a0 And he said to him, \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 3:15 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n15\u00a0 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to John (Sermon series) \u00a0by Rev.
