This is the man who\u00a0is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and\u00a0the law and\u00a0this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and\u00a0has defiled\u00a0this holy place.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For they had previously seen\u00a0Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.\u00a0<strong><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and\u00a0dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut.\u00a0<strong><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of\u00a0the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.\u00a0<strong><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.\u00a0<strong><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then the tribune came up and arrested him and ordered him\u00a0to be bound\u00a0with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done.\u00a0<strong><sup>34\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Some in the crowd were shouting one thing, some another. And as he could not learn the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into\u00a0the barracks.\u00a0<strong><sup>35\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when he came to the steps, he was actually carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd,<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>MISTAKE OF THE MAGISTRATE\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 22: 23-29\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,\u00a0<strong><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>the tribune ordered him to be brought into\u00a0the barracks, saying that he should be\u00a0examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this.\u00a0<strong><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But when they had stretched him out for the whips, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, \u201cIs it lawful for you to flog\u00a0a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When the centurion heard this, he went to the tribune and said to him, \u201cWhat are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So the tribune came and said to him, \u201cTell me, are you a Roman citizen?\u201d And he said, \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The tribune answered, \u201cI bought this citizenship for a large sum.\u201d Paul said, \u201cBut I am a citizen by birth.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So those who were about\u00a0to examine him withdrew from him immediately, and the tribune also\u00a0was afraid,\u00a0for he realized that Paul was a Roman citizen and that\u00a0he had bound him.<\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>TESTIMONY TO THE TEACHERS\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 22:30 &#8211; 23-10<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But on the next day,\u00a0desiring to know the real reason why he was being accused by the Jews, he unbound him and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and he brought Paul down and set him before them. <strong>23\u00a0<\/strong>And looking intently at the council, Paul said, \u201cBrothers,\u00a0I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And the high priest\u00a0Ananias commanded those who stood by him\u00a0to strike him on the mouth.\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then Paul said to him, \u201cGod is going to strike you, you\u00a0whitewashed\u00a0wall! Are you sitting to judge me according to the law, and yet\u00a0contrary to the law you\u00a0order me to be struck?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Those who stood by said, \u201cWould you revile\u00a0God&#8217;s high priest?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And Paul said,\u00a0\u201cI did not know, brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written,\u00a0\u201d\u02dcYou shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.\u201d\u2122\u201d<strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now when Paul perceived that one part were\u00a0Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, \u201cBrothers,\u00a0I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. It is\u00a0with respect to the\u00a0hope and the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.\u00a0<strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For the Sadducees\u00a0say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then a great clamor arose, and some of\u00a0the scribes of the Pharisees&#8217; party stood up and contended sharply,\u00a0\u201cWe find nothing wrong in this man. What\u00a0if a spirit or an angel spoke to him?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when the dissension became violent, the tribune, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him away from among them by force and bring him into\u00a0the barracks.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>OATH TO OBLITERATE\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 23: 12-22<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When it was day,\u00a0the Jews made a plot and\u00a0bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.\u00a0<strong><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.\u00a0<strong><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>They went to the chief priests and elders and said, \u201cWe have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul.\u00a0<strong><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now therefore you, along with the council, give notice to the tribune to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near.\u201d <strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now the son of Paul&#8217;s sister heard of their ambush, so he went and entered\u00a0the barracks and told Paul.\u00a0<strong><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Paul called one of the centurions and said, \u201cTake this young man to the tribune, for he has something to tell him.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So he took him and brought him to the tribune and said, \u201cPaul\u00a0the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, as he has something to say to you.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The tribune took him by the hand, and going aside asked him privately, \u201cWhat is it that you have to tell me?\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he said,\u00a0\u201cThe Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more closely about him.\u00a0<strong><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But do not be persuaded by them, for more than forty of their men are lying in ambush for him, who\u00a0have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him. And now they are ready, waiting for your consent.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So the tribune dismissed the young man, charging him, \u201cTell no one that you have informed me of these things.\u201d<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>REPORT TO THE RULER\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 23: 23-30<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>Then he called two of the centurions and said, \u201cGet ready two hundred soldiers, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go as far as Caesarea at the third hour of the night.\u00a0<strong><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Also provide mounts for Paul to ride and bring him safely to\u00a0Felix\u00a0the governor.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he wrote a letter to this effect: <strong><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cClaudius Lysias, to\u00a0his Excellency the governor Felix,\u00a0greetings.\u00a0<strong><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>This man was seized by the Jews and\u00a0was about to be killed by them\u00a0when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him,\u00a0having learned that he was a Roman citizen.\u00a0<strong><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And\u00a0desiring to know the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their council.\u00a0<strong><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I found that he was being accused\u00a0about questions of their law, but\u00a0charged with nothing deserving death or imprisonment.\u00a0<strong><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when it was disclosed to me\u00a0that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once,\u00a0ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him.\u201d<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>FABRICATIONS OF THE FALSE\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 24: 1-9<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>And\u00a0after five days the high priest\u00a0Ananias came down with some elders and a spokesman, one Tertullus. They laid before\u00a0the governor their case against Paul.\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when he had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying: \u201cSince through you we enjoy much peace, and since by your foresight,\u00a0most excellent Felix, reforms are being made for this nation,\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>in every way and everywhere we accept this with all gratitude.\u00a0<strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But, to detain<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+24&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-27760a\"><sup>a<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>\u00a0you no further, I beg you in your kindness to hear us briefly.\u00a0<strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For we have found this man a plague,\u00a0one who stirs up riots among all the Jews throughout the world and is a ringleader of\u00a0the sect of the Nazarenes.\u00a0<strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He even tried to profane the temple, but we seized him. \u00a0<strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>By examining him yourself you will be able to find out from him about everything of which we accuse him.\u201d <strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that all these things were so.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>CONFESSION OF CONFIDENCE\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 24: 10-22<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><sup>0\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when the governor had nodded to him to speak, Paul replied: \u201cKnowing that for many years you have been a judge over this nation, I cheerfully make my defense.\u00a0<strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>You can verify that\u00a0it is not more than twelve days since I\u00a0went up\u00a0to worship in Jerusalem,\u00a0<strong><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and\u00a0they did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the temple or in the synagogues or in the city.\u00a0<strong><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Neither can they prove to you what they now bring up against me.\u00a0<strong><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But this I confess to you, that according to\u00a0the Way, which they call\u00a0a sect,\u00a0I worship\u00a0the God of our fathers, believing everything\u00a0laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets,\u00a0<strong><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>having\u00a0a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be\u00a0a resurrection\u00a0of both the just and the unjust.\u00a0<strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So I always\u00a0take pains to have a\u00a0clear conscience toward both God and man.\u00a0<strong><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now\u00a0after several years\u00a0I came to bring alms to\u00a0my nation and to present\u00a0offerings.\u00a0<strong><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>While I was doing this, they found me\u00a0purified in the temple, without any crowd or tumult. But\u00a0some Jews from Asia\u201d\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>they ought to be here before you and to make an accusation, should they have anything against me.\u00a0<strong><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Or else let these men themselves say what wrongdoing they found when I stood before the council,\u00a0<strong><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>other than this one thing\u00a0that I cried out while standing among them: \u201d\u02dcIt is with respect to the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you this day.\u201d\u2122\u201d <strong><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But Felix, having a rather accurate knowledge of\u00a0the Way, put them off, saying, \u201cWhen Lysias the tribune comes down, I will decide your case.\u201d<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>FULL OF FACTS AND A FALSITY\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 24: 23-27<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then he gave orders to the centurion that he\u00a0should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that\u00a0none of his friends should be prevented from attending to his needs. <strong><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about\u00a0faith\u00a0in Christ Jesus.\u00a0<strong><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And as he reasoned\u00a0about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, \u201cGo away for the present.\u00a0When I get an opportunity I will summon you.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>At the same time he hoped\u00a0that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him.\u00a0<strong><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius\u00a0Festus. And\u00a0desiring to do the Jews a favor,\u00a0Felix left Paul in prison.<\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>James 2: 19<\/h2>\n<h2>You believe that God is one; you do well.
