Genesis 27: 1 – 28: 9<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PURPOSE TO BLESS Genesis 27: 1-4 <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a>When Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his older son and said to him, \u201cMy son\u201d; and he answered, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a02\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>He said, \u201cBehold, I am old; I do not know the day of my death.<\/span><\/span>\u00a03\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me,<\/span><\/span>\u00a04\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>and prepare for me delicious food, such as I love, and bring it to me so that I may eat, that my soul\u00a0may bless you before I die.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PLAN TO DECEIVE Genesis 27: 5-13<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it,<\/span><\/span>\u00a06\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Rebekah said to her son Jacob, \u201cI heard your father speak to your brother Esau,<\/span><\/span>\u00a07\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>\u201d\u02dcBring me game and prepare for me delicious food, that I may eat it and bless you before the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span>\u00a0before I die.\u201d\u2122<\/span><\/span>\u00a08\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Now therefore, my son,\u00a0obey my voice as I command you.<\/span><\/span>\u00a09\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats, so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father, such as he loves.<\/span><\/span>\u00a010\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>And you shall bring it to your father to eat,\u00a0so that he may bless you before he dies.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a011\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>But Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, \u201cBehold,\u00a0my brother Esau is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.<\/span><\/span>\u00a012\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Perhaps my father\u00a0will feel me, and I shall seem to be mocking him and bring\u00a0a curse upon myself and not a blessing.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a013\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>His mother said to him,\u00a0\u201cLet your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, bring them to me.\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PROP TO DISGUISE Genesis 27: 14-17<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> So he went and took them and brought them to his mother, and his mother prepared delicious food, such as his father loved.<\/span><\/span>\u00a015\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Then Rebekah took the\u00a0best garments of Esau her older son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.<\/span><\/span>\u00a016\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>And the skins of the young goats she put on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.<\/span><\/span>\u00a017\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>And she put the delicious food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PERFORMANCE TO CON Genesis 27: 18-25<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> So he went in to his father and said, \u201cMy father.\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am. Who are you, my son?\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a019\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Jacob said to his father, \u201cI am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me; now sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a020\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>But Isaac said to his son, \u201cHow is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?\u201d He answered, \u201cBecause the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span>\u00a0your God granted me success.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a021\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Then Isaac said to Jacob, \u201cPlease come near, that I\u00a0may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a022\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, who felt him and said, \u201cThe voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a023\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>And he did not recognize him, because\u00a0his hands were hairy like his brother Esau’s hands.\u00a0So he blessed him.<\/span><\/span>\u00a024\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>He said, \u201cAre you really my son Esau?\u201d He answered, \u201cI am.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a025\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Then he said, \u201cBring it near to me,\u00a0that I may eat of my son’s game and bless you.\u201d So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PROMINENCE TO CLAIM Genesis 27: 26-29<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> Then his father Isaac said to him, \u201cCome near and kiss me, my son.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>27\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>So he came near and kissed him. And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments\u00a0and blessed him and said, <\/span><\/span>\u201cSee,\u00a0the smell of my son is as the smell of a field that the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span>\u00a0has blessed! <\/span><\/span>28\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>May God give you of\u00a0the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and\u00a0plenty of grain and wine. <\/span><\/span>29\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Let peoples serve you, and nations\u00a0bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PROVOCATION TO ENRAGE Genesis 27: 30-37<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> \u00a0As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.<\/span><\/span>\u00a031\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>He also prepared delicious food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, \u201cLet my father arise and eat of his son’s game, that you may bless me.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a032\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>His father Isaac said to him, \u201cWho are you?\u201d He answered, \u201cI am your son, your firstborn, Esau.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a033\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Then Isaac trembled very violently and said, \u201cWho was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a034\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>As soon as Esau heard the words of his father,\u00a0he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, \u201cBless me, even me also, O my father!\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a035\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>But he said, \u201cYour brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a036\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Esau said,\u00a0\u201cIs he not rightly named Jacob?[<\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span><\/a>]\u00a0For he has cheated me these two times.\u00a0He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.\u201d Then he said, \u201cHave you not reserved a blessing for me?\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a037\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Isaac answered and said to Esau, \u201cBehold,\u00a0I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and\u00a0with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PITTANCE TO GRANT Genesis 27: 38-40<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a> Esau said to his father, \u201cHave you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.\u201d And\u00a0Esau lifted up his voice and wept. <\/span><\/span>39\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: <\/span><\/span>\u201cBehold,\u00a0away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be, and away from the dew of heaven on high. <\/span><\/span>40\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>By your sword you shall live, and you\u00a0shall serve your brother;
\nbut when you grow restless you shall break his yoke from your neck.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PROTECTION TO ARRANGE Genesis 27: 41-46<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> Now Esau\u00a0hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself,\u00a0\u201cThe days of mourning for my father are approaching;\u00a0then I will kill my brother Jacob.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>42\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>But the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him, \u201cBehold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>43\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban my brother in Haran\u00a0<\/span><\/span>44\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>and stay with him a while, until your brother’s fury turns away\u201d\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>45\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?\u201d <\/span><\/span>46\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Then Rebekah said to Isaac,\u00a0\u201cI loathe my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

2 Corinthians 6: 14<\/span><\/h3>\n

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For\u00a0what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or\u00a0what fellowship has light with darkness?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PILGRIMAGE TO MAKE Genesis 28: 1-5<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a> Then Isaac called Jacob\u00a0and blessed him and directed him,\u00a0\u201cYou must not take a wife from the Canaanite women.<\/span><\/span>\u00a02\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of\u00a0Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.<\/span><\/span>\u00a03\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples.<\/span><\/span>\u00a04\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>May he give\u00a0the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of\u00a0the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a05\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b>Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.<\/span><\/span> <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A PROBLEM TO COMPOUND Genesis 28: 6-9<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/a><\/a> Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, \u201cYou must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a07\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram.<\/span><\/span>\u00a08\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>So when Esau saw\u00a0that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father,<\/span><\/span>\u00a09\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had,\u00a0Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of\u00a0Nebaioth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
