Richard Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/rec-07-12-20.mp3\">rec 07-12-20<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>BELOVED BROTHER BARNABAS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Selections from Acts<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>BARNABAS WAS\u201d\u00a6<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>A GENEROUS GIVER\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 4: 32-37<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now the full number of those who believed were of\u00a0one heart and\u00a0soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but\u00a0they had everything in common.\u00a0<strong><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And with great\u00a0power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and\u00a0great grace was upon them all.\u00a0<strong><sup>34\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>There was not a needy person among them, for\u00a0as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold\u00a0<strong><sup>35\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and\u00a0laid it at the apostles&#8217; feet, and\u00a0it was distributed to each as any had need.\u00a0<strong><sup>36\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means\u00a0son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus,\u00a0<strong><sup>37\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and\u00a0laid it at the apostles&#8217; feet.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A SINNER&#8217;S FRIEND\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 9: 26-28<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And\u00a0when he had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.\u00a0<strong><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But\u00a0Barnabas took him and\u00a0brought him to the apostles and declared to them\u00a0how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and\u00a0how at Damascus he had\u00a0preached boldly in the name of Jesus.\u00a0<strong><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So he went\u00a0in and out among them at Jerusalem, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A CARING PASTOR\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 11: 19-26<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews.\u00a0<strong><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists\u00a0also,\u00a0preaching the Lord Jesus.\u00a0<strong><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And\u00a0the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed\u00a0turned to the Lord.\u00a0<strong><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.\u00a0<strong><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When he came and saw\u00a0the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord\u00a0with steadfast purpose,\u00a0<strong><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>for he was a good man,\u00a0full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people\u00a0were added to the Lord.\u00a0<strong><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So Barnabas went to\u00a0Tarsus to look for Saul,\u00a0<strong><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called\u00a0Christians.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A WORLD MISSIONARY\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Acts 13: 1-5<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Now there were in the church at Antioch\u00a0prophets and\u00a0teachers,\u00a0Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,\u00a0Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of\u00a0Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting,\u00a0the Holy Spirit said,\u00a0\u201cSet apart for me Barnabas and Saul\u00a0for the work to which I have called them.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then after fasting and\u00a0praying they laid their hands on them and\u00a0sent them off. <strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So, being sent out\u00a0by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.\u00a0<strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God\u00a0in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had\u00a0John to\u00a0assist them.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A SILENT SUPPORTER\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 13: 6-13<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain\u00a0magician,\u00a0a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.\u00a0<strong><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He was with\u00a0the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.\u00a0<strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But Elymas the\u00a0magician (for that is the meaning of his name)\u00a0opposed them, seeking to turn\u00a0the proconsul away from the faith.\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But Saul, who was also called Paul,\u00a0filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and said, \u201cYou\u00a0son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and\u00a0villainy, will you not stop\u00a0making crooked\u00a0the straight paths of the Lord?\u00a0<strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And now, behold,\u00a0the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.\u201d Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking\u00a0people to lead him by the hand.\u00a0<strong><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at\u00a0the teaching of the Lord. <strong><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And\u00a0John left them and returned\u00a0to Jerusalem,<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A MISUNDERSTOOD APOSTLE\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 14: 8-18<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was\u00a0crippled from birth and had never walked.\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and\u00a0seeing that he had faith to be made well,<sup>[<\/sup><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=++Acts+14%3A+8-18&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-27411a\"><sup>a<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>said in a loud voice, \u201cStand upright on your feet.\u201d And he\u00a0sprang up and began walking.\u00a0<strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian,\u00a0\u201cThe gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Barnabas they called\u00a0Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.\u00a0<strong><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And the priest of\u00a0Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and\u00a0wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.\u00a0<strong><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they\u00a0tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out,\u00a0<strong><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cMen,\u00a0why are you doing these things? We also are men,\u00a0of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that\u00a0you should turn from these\u00a0vain things to\u00a0a living God,\u00a0who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.\u00a0<strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>In past generations he\u00a0allowed all the nations\u00a0to walk in their own ways.\u00a0<strong><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Yet\u00a0he did not leave himself without witness, for he\u00a0did good by\u00a0giving you rains from heaven and\u00a0fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with\u00a0food and\u00a0gladness.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A DOCTRINE DEFENDER \u00a0\u00a0Acts 14: 27-15:3<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And when they arrived and gathered the church together,\u00a0they declared all that God had done with them, and\u00a0how he had\u00a0opened\u00a0a door of faith to the Gentiles.\u00a0<strong><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And they remained no little time with the disciples. <strong>15\u00a0<\/strong>But some men came down from Judea and were teaching\u00a0the brothers, \u201cUnless you are\u00a0circumcised\u00a0according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and\u00a0debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and\u00a0some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to\u00a0the apostles and the elders about this question.\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>So,\u00a0being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria,\u00a0describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and\u00a0brought great joy to all\u00a0the brothers.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A PEOPLE BELIEVER\u00a0\u00a0 Acts 15: 36-41<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, \u201cLet us return and visit\u00a0the brothers\u00a0in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.\u201d\u00a0<strong><sup>37\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Now Barnabas wanted to take with them\u00a0John called Mark.\u00a0<strong><sup>38\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But Paul thought best not to take with them one\u00a0who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work.\u00a0<strong><sup>39\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And there arose\u00a0a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other.\u00a0Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,\u00a0<strong><sup>40\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>but Paul chose Silas and departed,\u00a0having been commended by\u00a0the brothers to\u00a0the grace of the Lord.\u00a0<strong><sup>41\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And he went through Syria and Cilicia,\u00a0strengthening the churches.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 Timothy 4: 9-11<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do your best to come to me soon.\u00a0<strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For\u00a0Demas,\u00a0in love with\u00a0this present world,\u00a0has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia,\u00a0Titus to Dalmatia.\u00a0<strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Luke alone is with me.
