\nLuke 2: 21-40 (ESV)<\/strong>
\nAnd at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, \u201cEvery male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord\u201d) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, \u201ca pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.\u201d 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,
\n29 \u201cLord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,
\naccording to your word;
\n30 for my eyes have seen your salvation
\n31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
\n32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
\nand for glory to your people Israel.\u201d
\n33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, \u201cBehold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.\u201d
\n36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.39 And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.<\/p>\n

\nBut when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cDo not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.<\/p>\n

\nThe friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
\nand he makes known to them his covenant.

\nFor Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God<\/p>\n
\nFor it stands in Scripture: \u201cBehold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.\u201d7 So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,\u201cThe stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,\u201d 8 and \u201cA stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.\u201d They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.<\/p>\n
