Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/rec0324-112419.mp3\">rec0324-112419<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>&#8220;Graffiti From God&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Daniel chapter 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PRESUMPTUOUS FEAST<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:1-4 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0King Belshazzar made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine in front of the thousand. <\/span><span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PERTURBING SIGHT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:5-6 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king\u201d\u2122s palace, opposite the lampstand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then the king\u201d\u2122s color changed, and his thoughts alarmed him; his limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PERPLEXING WRITING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:7-9 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The king called loudly to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers. The king declared to the wise men of Babylon, \u201cWhoever reads this writing, and shows me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around his neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then all the king\u201d\u2122s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or make known to the king the interpretation.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then King Belshazzar was greatly alarmed, and his color changed, and his lords were perplexed.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PERCEPTIVE QUEEN<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:10-12 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banqueting hall, and the queen declared, \u201cO king, live forever! Let not your thoughts alarm you or your color change.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father\u201d\u201dyour father the king\u201d\u201dmade him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PROMISED OFFER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:13-17 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, \u201cYou are that Daniel, one of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought from Judah.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not show the interpretation of the matter.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But I have heard that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Daniel answered and said before the king, \u201cLet your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PARTICULAR LESSON<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:18-21 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.<\/p>\n<p><b>Daniel 4:28-35 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and the king answered and said, \u201cIs not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0While the words were still in the king\u201d\u2122s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, \u201cO King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from among men and ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles\u201d\u2122 feathers, and his nails were like birds\u201d\u2122 claws.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, <span class=\"poetry1\">for his dominion is an everlasting dominion,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, <span class=\"poetry2\">and he does according to his will among the host of heaven<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and among the inhabitants of the earth;<\/span> and none can stay his hand <span class=\"poetry2\">or say to him, \u201cWhat have you done?\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A PERSONAL INDICTMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:22-24 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cThen from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A POINTED MESSAGE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Daniel 5:25-31 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And this is the writing that was inscribed: <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">MENE<\/span>, <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">MENE<\/span>, <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">TEKEL<\/span>, and <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">PARSIN<\/span>.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0This is the interpretation of the matter: <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">MENE<\/span>, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end;<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting;<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.\u201d <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hebrews 4:13 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.<\/p>\n<p><b>Job 20:4-9 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Do you not know this from of old, <span class=\"poetry2\">since man was placed on earth,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0that the exulting of the wicked is short, <span class=\"poetry2\">and the joy of the godless but for a moment?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Though his height mount up to the heavens, <span class=\"poetry2\">and his head reach to the clouds,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0he will perish forever like his own dung; <span class=\"poetry2\">those who have seen him will say, \u201d\u02dcWhere is he?\u201d\u2122<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He will fly away like a dream and not be found; <span class=\"poetry2\">he will be chased away like a vision of the night.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The eye that saw him will see him no more, <span class=\"poetry2\">nor will his place any more behold him.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Psalm 33:12-20 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Blessed is the nation whose God is the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, <span class=\"poetry2\">the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> looks down from heaven; <span class=\"poetry2\">he sees all the children of man;<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0from where he sits enthroned he looks out <span class=\"poetry2\">on all the inhabitants of the earth,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0he who fashions the hearts of them all <span class=\"poetry2\">and observes all their deeds.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The king is not saved by his great army; <span class=\"poetry2\">a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The war horse is a false hope for salvation, <span class=\"poetry2\">and by its great might it cannot rescue.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Behold, the eye of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> is on those who fear him, <span class=\"poetry2\">on those who hope in his steadfast love,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0that he may deliver their soul from death <span class=\"poetry2\">and keep them alive in famine.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Our soul waits for the LORD; <span class=\"poetry2\">he is our help and our shield.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>APPLICATION<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>God is the ultimate judge of individuals.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>God has a way of ending pride.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>God judges the nations.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><b>2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon by Rev.
