Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rec0120-112550.mp3\">rec0120-112550<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GOSPEL OF MARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;And the Curtain was Torn&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mark 15: 1-39<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE SILENCE OF JESUS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 15:1-5 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Pilate asked him, \u201cAre you the King of the Jews?\u201d And he answered him, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cYou have said so.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the chief priests accused him of many things.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Pilate again asked him, \u201cHave you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Isaiah 53:7-8 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, <span class=\"poetry2\">yet he opened not his mouth;<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">so he opened not his mouth.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0By oppression and judgment he was taken away; <span class=\"poetry2\">and as for his generation, who considered<\/span> that he was cut off out of the land of the living, <span class=\"poetry2\">stricken for the transgression of my people?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE CHOICE OF THE MOB<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 15:6-15 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he answered them, saying, \u201cDo you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Pilate again said to them, \u201cThen what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they cried out again, \u201cCrucify him.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Pilate said to them, \u201cWhy, what evil has he done?\u201d But they shouted all the more, \u201cCrucify him.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE MOCKERY OF SOLDIERS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 15:16-20 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor\u201d\u2122s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they began to salute him, \u201cHail, King of the Jews!\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE DRAMA OF THE CROSS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"ind\"><b>Mark 15:21-27 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And it was the third hour when they crucified him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the inscription of the charge against him read, \u201cThe King of the Jews.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left. <b>\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, \u201cAha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0save yourself, and come down from the cross!\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, \u201cHe saved others; he cannot save himself.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.\u201d Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE TRIUMPH OF GRACE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 15:33-39 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cEloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?\u201d<\/span> which means, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And some of the bystanders hearing it said, \u201cBehold, he is calling Elijah.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, \u201cWait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, \u201cTruly this man was the Son of God!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hebrews 10:19-23 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and since we have a great priest over the house of God,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
