“Before He Suffered”<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

Mark 14: 1-31<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE GIFT OF ALL<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 14:1-11 (ESV) <\/b>
\n1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him,
\n2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0for they said, \u201cNot during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.\u201d
\n3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.
\n4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0There were some who said to themselves indignantly, \u201cWhy was the ointment wasted like that?
\n5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.\u201d And they scolded her.
\n6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Jesus said, \u201cLeave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.<\/span>
\n7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me.<\/span>
\n8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial.<\/span>
\n9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.\u201d<\/span>
\n10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them.
\n11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE INSTRUCTION OF PASSOVER<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 14:12-16 (ESV) <\/b>
\n12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, \u201cWhere will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?\u201d
\n13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, \u201cGo into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him,<\/span>
\n14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, \u201d\u02dcThe Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?\u201d\u2122<\/span>
\n15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.\u201d<\/span>
\n16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE APPEAL OF LOVE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 14:17-21 (ESV) <\/b>
\n17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when it was evening, he came with the twelve.
\n18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, \u201cTruly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.\u201d<\/span>
\n19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, \u201cIs it I?\u201d
\n20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said to them, \u201cIt is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me.<\/span>
\n21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE SYMBOLS OF SALVATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 14:22-25 (ESV) <\/b>
\n22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, \u201cTake; this is my body.\u201d<\/span>
\n23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.
\n24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, \u201cThis is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.<\/span>
\n25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE FAILURE OF FRIENDS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 14:26-31 (ESV) <\/b>
\n26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
\n27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to them, \u201cYou will all fall away, for it is written, \u201d\u02dcI will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.\u201d\u2122<\/span>
\n28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.\u201d<\/span>
\n29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Peter said to him, \u201cEven though they all fall away, I will not.\u201d
\n30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to him, \u201cTruly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.\u201d<\/span>
\n31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he said emphatically, \u201cIf I must die with you, I will not deny you.\u201d And they all said the same.<\/span><\/p>\n
