Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/rec1216-112931.mp3\">rec1216-112931<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GOSPEL OF MARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;Questions in the Temple&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mark 12: 13-44<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A QUESTION OF RESPONSIBILITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 12:13-17 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they came and said to him, \u201cTeacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone\u201d\u2122s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhy put me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they brought one. And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhose likeness and inscription is this?\u201d<\/span> They said to him, \u201cCaesar\u201d\u2122s.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Jesus said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cRender to Caesar the things that are Caesar\u201d\u2122s, and to God the things that are God\u201d\u2122s.\u201d<\/span> And they marveled at him. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>1 Peter 2:13-15 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Be subject for the Lord\u201d\u2122s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A QUESTION OF ETERNITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 12:18-27 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cTeacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man\u201d\u2122s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Jesus said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cIs this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, \u201d\u02dcI am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob\u201d\u2122?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Deuteronomy 25:5-6 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0\u201cIf brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her husband\u201d\u2122s brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a husband\u201d\u2122s brother to her.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A QUESTION OF PRIORITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 12:28-34 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, \u201cWhich commandment is the most important of all?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThe most important is, \u201d\u02dcHear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.\u201d\u2122<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">The second is this: \u201d\u02dcYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u201d\u2122 There is no other commandment greater than these.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the scribe said to him, \u201cYou are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one\u201d\u2122s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cYou are not far from the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span> And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A QUESTION OF IDENTITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 12:35-40 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cHow can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201c\u201d\u02dcThe Lord said to my Lord,<\/span> <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cSit at my right hand,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\"><span class=\"JesusWords\">until I put your enemies under your feet.\u201d\u201d\u2122<\/span><\/span><\/span> <span class=\"noindent\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?\u201d<\/span> And the great throng heard him gladly.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And in his teaching he said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cBeware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">who devour widows\u201d\u2122 houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Romans 1:3-4 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A QUESTION OF GENEROSITY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 12:41-44 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">41 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">42 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he called his disciples to him and said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cTruly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">44 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
