Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/rec1111-113036.mp3\">rec1111-113036<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GOSPEL OF MARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>&#8220;Toward the Cross&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mark Chapter 9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MOUNTAIN GLORY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0Mark 9:2-8 (ESV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Peter said to Jesus, \u201cRabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, \u201cThis is my beloved Son; listen to him.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HONEST QUESTION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:9-13 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they asked him, \u201cWhy do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cElijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SPIRITUAL CHALLENGE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:14-24 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he asked them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhat are you arguing about with them?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And someone from the crowd answered him, \u201cTeacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he answered them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cO faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus asked his father, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cHow long has this been happening to him?\u201d<\/span> And he said, \u201cFrom childhood.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to him, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201c\u201d\u02dcIf you can\u201d\u2122! All things are possible for one who believes.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, \u201cI believe; help my unbelief!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PRAYER POWER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:25-29 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cYou mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, \u201cHe is dead.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, \u201cWhy could we not cast it out?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThis kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>GREATNESS REDEFINED<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:30-37 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThe Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhat were you discussing on the way?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cIf anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PARTISAN ATTITUDE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:38-41 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0John said to him, \u201cTeacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Jesus said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cDo not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For the one who is not against us is for us.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">41 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HELL DANGER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 9:42-48 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">42 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">45 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">47 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell,<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">48 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201d\u02dcwhere their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.\u201d\u2122<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
