Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/rec1104-112620.mp3\">rec1104-112620<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GOSPEL OF MARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;The Carpenter Christ&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mark Chapter 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>COMPASSION and CHALLENGE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:1-10 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cI have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And his disciples answered him, \u201cHow can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he asked them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cHow many loaves do you have?\u201d<\/span> They said, \u201cSeven.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>FORGOTTEN FOOD and CONFUSED MINDS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:11-21 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhy does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he cautioned them, saying, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWatch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhy are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?\u201d<\/span> They said to him, \u201cTwelve.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cAnd the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?\u201d<\/span> And they said to him, \u201cSeven.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cDo you not yet understand?\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>TWO STAGES and ONE RESULT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:22-26 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cDo you see anything?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he looked up and said, \u201cI see people, but they look like trees, walking.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he sent him to his home, saying, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cDo not even enter the village.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Matthew 11:20-22 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWoe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CONFESSION and COMMAND<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:27-30 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWho do people say that I am?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they told him, \u201cJohn the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he asked them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cBut who do you say that I am?\u201d<\/span> Peter answered him, \u201cYou are the Christ.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>TRUTH and PROTEST<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:31-33 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cGet behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>COST and TRIUMPH<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 8:34-38 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cIf anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel\u201d\u2122s will save it.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For what can a man give in return for his soul?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
