Mark 6: 1-13 & 30-52<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HOMETOWN UNWELCOME<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 6:1-6 (ESV) <\/b>
\n1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.
\n2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, \u201cWhere did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?
\n3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?\u201d And they took offense at him.
\n4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to them, \u201cA prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.\u201d<\/span>
\n5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
\n6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

JOURNEY OF DEPENDENCE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 6:7-13 (ESV) <\/b>
\n7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
\n8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff\u201d\u201dno bread, no bag, no money in their belts\u201d\u201d
\n9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics.
\n10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, \u201cWhenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there.<\/span>
\n11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.\u201d<\/span>
\n12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.
\n13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

REST INTERRUPTED<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 6:30-34 (ESV) <\/b>
\n30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught.
\n31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, \u201cCome away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.\u201d<\/span> For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
\n32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.
\n33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them.
\n34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

MIRACLE WITH MEAGER<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 6:35-44 (ESV) <\/b>
\n35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, \u201cThis is a desolate place, and the hour is now late.
\n36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.\u201d
\n37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he answered them, \u201cYou give them something to eat.\u201d<\/span> And they said to him, \u201cShall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?\u201d
\n38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, \u201cHow many loaves do you have? Go and see.\u201d<\/span> And when they had found out, they said, \u201cFive, and two fish.\u201d
\n39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.
\n40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.
\n41 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all.
\n42 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they all ate and were satisfied.
\n43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish.
\n44 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

WITNESS ON THE WATER<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mark 6:45-52 (ESV) <\/b>
\n45 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.
\n46 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.
\n47 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.
\n48 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them,
\n49 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out,
\n50 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, \u201cTake heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.\u201d<\/span>
\n51 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded,
\n52 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hebrews 7:23-25 (ESV) <\/b>
\n23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office,
\n24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
\n25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.<\/p>\n
