Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/rec0923-112702.mp3\">rec0923-112702<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GOSPEL OF MARK<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;The Growing Opposition&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Mark 2:1 &#8211; 3:6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>AUTHORITY TO FORGIVE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 2:1-12 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cSon, your sins are forgiven.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cWhy does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cWhy do you question these things in your hearts?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, \u201d\u02dcYour sins are forgiven,\u201d\u2122 or to say, \u201d\u02dcRise, take up your bed and walk\u201d\u2122?<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins\u201d<\/span>\u201d\u201dhe said to the paralytic\u201d\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cI say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, \u201cWe never saw anything like this!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>FRIEND OF SINNERS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 2:13-17 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cFollow me.\u201d<\/span> And he rose and followed him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, \u201cWhy does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThose who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>IMPOSSIBLE TO MIX<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 2:18-22 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now John\u201d\u2122s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him, \u201cWhy do John\u201d\u2122s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jesus said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cCan the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins\u201d\u201dand the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hebrews 8:13 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RELIGION OF RULES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 2:23-28 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the Pharisees were saying to him, \u201cLook, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cHave you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him:<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cThe Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HARDNESS OF HEART<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mark 3:1-6 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to the man with the withered hand, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cCome here.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to them, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cIs it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?\u201d<\/span> But they were silent.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cStretch out your hand.\u201d<\/span> He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
