Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/rec0527-112825.mp3\">rec0527-112825<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Standing for God in a Godless Culture<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>1 Kings 18:41 &#8211; 19:18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RAIN IS COMING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:41-46 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">41 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And Elijah said to Ahab, \u201cGo up, eat and drink, for there is a sound of the rushing of rain.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">42 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Mount Carmel. And he bowed himself down on the earth and put his face between his knees.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said to his servant, \u201cGo up now, look toward the sea.\u201d And he went up and looked and said, \u201cThere is nothing.\u201d And he said, \u201cGo again,\u201d seven times.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">44 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And at the seventh time he said, \u201cBehold, a little cloud like a man\u201d\u2122s hand is rising from the sea.\u201d And he said, \u201cGo up, say to Ahab, \u201d\u02dcPrepare your chariot and go down, lest the rain stop you.\u201d\u2122\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">45 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And in a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">46 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the hand of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> was on Elijah, and he gathered up his garment and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RUNNING IN FEAR<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 19:1-4 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, \u201cSo may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he himself went a day\u201d\u2122s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, \u201cIt is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>REVIVING HIS STRENGTH<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 19:5-8 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, \u201cArise and eat.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the angel of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> came again a second time and touched him and said, \u201cArise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God.<\/p>\n<p><b>Isaiah 40:31 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; <span class=\"poetry2\">they shall mount up with wings like eagles;<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">they shall run and not be weary;<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">they shall walk and not faint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>REVEALING GOD&#8217;S WAYS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 19:9-14 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said, \u201cI have been very jealous for the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said, \u201cGo out and stand on the mount before the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>.\u201d And behold, the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, but the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after the earthquake a fire, but the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, \u201cWhat are you doing here, Elijah?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said, \u201cI have been very jealous for the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RETURN TO YOUR WORK<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 19:15-18 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the LORD said to him, \u201cGo, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Psalm 103:13-14 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0As a father shows compassion to his children, <span class=\"poetry2\">so the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> shows compassion to those who fear him.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For he knows our frame; <span class=\"poetry2\">he remembers that we are dust.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>REFUSAL OF THE FAITHFUL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 19:18 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Romans 11:1-5 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel?<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cLord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But what is God\u201d\u2122s reply to him? \u201cI have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
