Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/rec0520-111922.mp3\">rec0520-111922<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Standing for God in a Godless Culture<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>1 Kings 18: 17-40<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>POISONED PERSPECTUVE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:17-19 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, \u201cIs it you, you troubler of Israel?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he answered, \u201cI have not troubled Israel, but you have, and your father\u201d\u2122s house, because you have abandoned the commandments of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> and followed the Baals.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now therefore send and gather all Israel to me at Mount Carmel, and the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel\u201d\u2122s table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>TRUTH TRIAL<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:20-24 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Elijah came near to all the people and said, \u201cHow long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.\u201d And the people did not answer him a word.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Elijah said to the people, \u201cI, even I only, am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal\u201d\u2122s prophets are 450 men.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Let two bulls be given to us, and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but put no fire to it. And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, and the God who answers by fire, he is God.\u201d And all the people answered, \u201cIt is well spoken.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Revelation 3:15-16 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201c\u201d\u02dcI know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>BEGGING BAAL<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:25-29 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, \u201cChoose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are many, and call upon the name of your god, but put no fire to it.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, \u201cO Baal, answer us!\u201d But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they had made.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, \u201cCry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is musing, or he is relieving himself, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they cried aloud and cut themselves after their custom with swords and lances, until the blood gushed out upon them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as midday passed, they raved on until the time of the offering of the oblation, but there was no voice. No one answered; no one paid attention.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>DIFFICULT DEMONSTRATION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:30-35 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Elijah said to all the people, \u201cCome near to me.\u201d And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> that had been thrown down.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, \u201cIsrael shall be your name,\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>. And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs of seed.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, \u201cFill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said, \u201cDo it a second time.\u201d And they did it a second time. And he said, \u201cDo it a third time.\u201d And they did it a third time.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>AFTERNOON ANSWER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>1 Kings 18:36-40 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, \u201cO LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Answer me, O <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, answer me, that this people may know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then the fire of the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, \u201cThe <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, he is God; the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span>, he is God.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Elijah said to them, \u201cSeize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.\u201d And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slaughtered them there.<\/p>\n<p><b>Deuteronomy 13:1-5 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0\u201cIf a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, \u201d\u02dcLet us go after other gods,\u201d\u2122 which you have not known, \u201d\u02dcand let us serve them,\u201d\u2122<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0You shall walk after the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the <span style=\"font-variant: small-caps;\">LORD<\/span> your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>John 17:14-18 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (ESV) <\/b><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>APPLICATON:<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>1. We don&#8217;t see miracles today like the ones in the Old Testament. Most of the time, God&#8217;s actions are quiet and unseen, but the results of them are visible.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><b>2. We are called to stand for God in our own Godless culture.<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>3. We don&#8217;t kill anybody, but we are to put to death the lies of a Godless culture.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
