{"id":3724,"date":"2018-03-11T16:12:22","date_gmt":"2018-03-11T20:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/?p=3724"},"modified":"2018-03-11T16:16:09","modified_gmt":"2018-03-11T20:16:09","slug":"trusting-in-trouble-the-story-of-joseph-vol-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/?p=3724","title":{"rendered":"TRUSTING IN TROUBLE \/ The Story of Joseph, Vol. 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Sermon series by Rev Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/rec0311-113333-1.mp3\">rec0311-113333<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;Falsely Accused and Quickly Forgotten&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Genesis 39\u00a0&amp; 40<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>FALSELY ACCUSED<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 39:1-6a (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0His master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the Egyptian\u201d\u2122s house for Joseph\u201d\u2122s sake; the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in house and field.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So he left all that he had in Joseph\u201d\u2122s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 39:6b-10 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"ind\">Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after a time his master\u201d\u2122s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, \u201cLie with me.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he refused and said to his master\u201d\u2122s wife, \u201cBehold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proverbs 23:26-28 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0My son, give me your heart, <span class=\"poetry2\">and let your eyes observe my ways.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For a prostitute is a deep pit; <span class=\"poetry2\">an adulteress is a narrow well.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0She lies in wait like a robber <span class=\"poetry2\">and increases the traitors among mankind.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 39:11-15 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0she caught him by his garment, saying, \u201cLie with me.\u201d But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0she called to the men of her household and said to them, \u201cSee, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 Timothy 2:22 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 39:16-20 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and she told him the same story, saying, \u201cThe Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.\u201d <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, \u201cThis is the way your servant treated me,\u201d his anger was kindled.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Joseph\u201d\u2122s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king\u201d\u2122s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 39:21-23 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph\u201d\u2122s charge, because the LORD was with him. And whatever he did, the LORD made it succeed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>QUICKLY FORGOTTEN<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 40:1-4 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Some time after this, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 40:5-8 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And one night they both dreamed\u201d\u201dthe cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison\u201d\u201deach his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So he asked Pharaoh\u201d\u2122s officers who were with him in custody in his master\u201d\u2122s house, \u201cWhy are your faces downcast today?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They said to him, \u201cWe have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.\u201d And Joseph said to them, \u201cDo not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 40:9-15 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, \u201cIn my dream there was a vine before me,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Pharaoh\u201d\u2122s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh\u201d\u2122s cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh\u201d\u2122s hand.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Joseph said to him, \u201cThis is its interpretation: the three branches are three days.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh\u201d\u2122s cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Genesis 40:16-19 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, \u201cI also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Joseph answered and said, \u201cThis is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head\u201d\u201dfrom you!\u201d\u201dand hang you on a tree.
