Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/rec0304-113228.mp3\">rec0304-113228<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>&#8220;IN THE PIT OF REJECTION&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Genesis 37<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>JACKET OF JEALOUSY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:1-4 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Jacob lived in the land of his father\u201d\u2122s sojournings, in the land of Canaan. <\/span><span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father\u201d\u2122s wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>DREAMS OF DESTINY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:5-11 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said to them, \u201cHear this dream that I have dreamed:<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0His brothers said to him, \u201cAre you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?\u201d So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, \u201cBehold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, \u201cWhat is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PLOT FOR PUNISHMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:12-20 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now his brothers went to pasture their father\u201d\u2122s flock near Shechem.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Israel said to Joseph, \u201cAre not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.\u201d And he said to him, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So he said to him, \u201cGo now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.\u201d So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, \u201cWhat are you seeking?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cI am seeking my brothers,\u201d he said. \u201cTell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the man said, \u201cThey have gone away, for I heard them say, \u201d\u02dcLet us go to Dothan.\u201d\u2122\u201d So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They said to one another, \u201cHere comes this dreamer.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RESCUED BY REUBEN<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:21-24 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, \u201cLet us not take his life.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Reuben said to them, \u201cShed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him\u201d\u201d\u201dthat he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Romans 8:28 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SILVER FOR SLAVERY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:25-28 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Judah said to his brothers, \u201cWhat profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.\u201d And his brothers listened to him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>DRAMA OF DECEPTION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:29-35 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he tore his clothes<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and returned to his brothers and said, \u201cThe boy is gone, and I, where shall I go?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then they took Joseph\u201d\u2122s robe and slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they sent the robe of many colors and brought it to their father and said, \u201cThis we have found; please identify whether it is your son\u201d\u2122s robe or not.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he identified it and said, \u201cIt is my son\u201d\u2122s robe. A fierce animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted and said, \u201cNo, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.\u201d Thus his father wept for him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>BLOCK OF BEWILDERMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 37:36 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Meanwhile the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 53:2-6 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For he grew up before him like a young plant, <span class=\"poetry2\">and like a root out of dry ground;<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and no beauty that we should desire him.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He was despised and rejected by men; <span class=\"poetry2\">a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;<\/span> and as one from whom men hide their faces <span class=\"poetry2\">he was despised, and we esteemed him not.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Surely he has borne our griefs <span class=\"poetry2\">and carried our sorrows;<\/span> yet we esteemed him stricken, <span class=\"poetry2\">smitten by God, and afflicted.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But he was pierced for our transgressions; <span class=\"poetry2\">he was crushed for our iniquities;<\/span> upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, <span class=\"poetry2\">and with his wounds we are healed.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0All we like sheep have gone astray; <span class=\"poetry2\">we have turned\u201d\u201devery one\u201d\u201dto his own way;<\/span> and the LORD has laid on him <span class=\"poetry2\">the iniquity of us all.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 27:45-46 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">45 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">46 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cEli, Eli, lema sabachthani?\u201d<\/span> that is, <span class=\"JesusWords\">\u201cMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 10:19-23 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and since we have a great priest over the house of God,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon Series by Rev.
