THE BACKGROUND OF THE NAME<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Matthew 1:18-25 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
\n19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
\n20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, \u201cJoseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
\n21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.\u201d
\n22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
\n23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cBehold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel\u201d<\/span> (which means, God with us).<\/span>
\n24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,
\n25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

THE BLESSING OF THE NAME<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Matthew 1:1 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Acts 5:30-31 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.
\n31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.<\/p>\n

Acts 10:42-43 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>42 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.
\n43 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.\u201d<\/p>\n

John 1:12 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,<\/p>\n

John 20:30-31 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;
\n31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. <\/span><\/p>\n

1 John 3:9 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God\u201d\u2122s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.<\/p>\n

Romans 8:2-4 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
\n3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
\n4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.<\/p>\n

Revelation 21:1-4 (ESV)
\n<\/strong>1 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
\n2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
\n3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, \u201cBehold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
