Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/rec0827-112201.mp3\">rec0827-112201<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Sermon Series: <\/strong><strong>The Story of Abraham<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>HILL OF PROVISION<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Genesis, Chapter\u00a022:1-19<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A SURPRISE OF DEVOTION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 22:1-2 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup>1 <\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, \u201cAbraham!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup>2 <\/sup>\u00a0He said, \u201cTake your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A STRUGGLE OF BELIEVING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 22:3-6 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Abraham said to his young men, \u201cStay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 11:17-19 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0of whom it was said, \u201cThrough Isaac shall your offspring be named.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A SACRIFICE OF TRUSTING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 22:7-10 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Isaac said to his father Abraham, \u201cMy father!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am, my son.\u201d He said, \u201cBehold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Abraham said, \u201cGod will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.\u201d So they went both of them together. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A SUBSTITUTE OF PROVISION<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 22:11-14 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, \u201cAbraham, Abraham!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He said, \u201cDo not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Abraham called the name of that place, \u201cThe LORD will provide\u201d; as it is said to this day, \u201cOn the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>This is the first time in the Bible\u00a0where the concept of &#8220;substitutionary atonement&#8221; is presented.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 3:18 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The place is the point!<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 22:15-19 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and said, \u201cBy myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived at Beersheba.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The theme of this story is substitutionary atonement.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The where of this story is Mt. Calvary.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The illustration of this\u00a0story\u00a0is the idea of need.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sermon by Rev.
