WAITING<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Genesis, Chapters 16 &amp; 17<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SON BY A SERVANT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 16:1-6 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Now Sarai, Abram\u201d\u2122s wife, had borne him no children. She had a female Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Sarai said to Abram, \u201cBehold now, the LORD has prevented me from bearing children. Go in to my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children by her.\u201d And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram\u201d\u2122s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, and gave her to Abram her husband as a wife.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Sarai said to Abram, \u201cMay the wrong done to me be on you! I gave my servant to your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me!\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Abram said to Sarai, \u201cBehold, your servant is in your power; do to her as you please.\u201d Then Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SEEN BY THE SOVEREIGN<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 16:7-16 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he said, \u201cHagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?\u201d She said, \u201cI am fleeing from my mistress Sarai.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The angel of the LORD said to her, \u201cReturn to your mistress and submit to her.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The angel of the LORD also said to her, \u201cI will surely multiply your offspring so that they cannot be numbered for multitude.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the angel of the LORD said to her, <span class=\"poetry1\">\u201cBehold, you are pregnant<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and shall bear a son.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\">You shall call his name Ishmael,<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">because the LORD has listened to your affliction.<\/span> <span class=\"poetry1\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He shall be a wild donkey of a man, <span class=\"poetry2\">his hand against everyone<\/span> <span class=\"poetry2\">and everyone\u201d\u2122s hand against him,<\/span> and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.\u201d <span class=\"noindent\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, \u201cYou are a God of seeing,\u201d for she said, \u201cTruly here I have seen him who looks after me.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it lies between Kadesh and Bered. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SHOW BY YOUR ACTIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 17:1-8 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, \u201cI am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0\u201cBehold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SIGN OF THE COVENANT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 17:9-14 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And God said to Abraham, \u201cAs for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colossians 2:11-12 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SURE TO HIS PROMISE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 17:15-22 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0And God said to Abraham, \u201cAs for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0I will bless her, and moreover, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, \u201cShall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Abraham said to God, \u201cOh that Ishmael might live before you!\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0God said, \u201cNo, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SEAL OF OBEDIENCE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Genesis 17:23-27 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham\u201d\u2122s house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><em><strong>What can we gain from these two chapters?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><strong>1. Do things God&#8217;s way and wait for God&#8217;s voice.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><strong>2. When God does speak, obey Him immediately.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><strong>3.
