Richard Jones<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/rec0423-111713.mp3\">rec0423-111713<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Jubilation Through Jail<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Acts 16: 11-40<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A SOUL CONVERTED<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acts 16:11-15 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">11 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0So, setting sail from Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city some days.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, \u201cIf you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.\u201d And she prevailed upon us. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A\u00a0SPIRIT DEFEATED<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acts 16:16-18 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0She followed Paul and us, crying out, \u201cThese men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, \u201cI command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.\u201d And it came out that very hour. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A LAW IGNORED<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acts 16:19-24 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, \u201cThese men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A PRISON SHAKEN<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"ind\"><strong>Acts 16:25-29 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone\u201d\u2122s bonds were unfastened.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Paul cried with a loud voice, \u201cDo not harm yourself, for we are all here.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>2 Corinthians 4:16-17 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A JAILER FREED<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acts 16:30-34 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then he brought them out and said, \u201cSirs, what must I do to be saved?\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they said, \u201cBelieve in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Acts 20:20-21 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>A CHURCH PROTECTED<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acts 16:35-40 (ESV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But when it was day, the magistrates sent the police, saying, \u201cLet those men go.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, \u201cThe magistrates have sent to let you go. Therefore come out now and go in peace.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But Paul said to them, \u201cThey have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.\u201d<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">39 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">40 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia.
