Our Ultimate Choice<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Matthew 7:24-29<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0Matthew 7:24-29 (NASB)
\n<\/strong>24 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.<\/span>
\n25 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0“<\/span>And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet<\/i> it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.<\/span>
\n26 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0“<\/span>Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.<\/span>
\n27 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0“<\/span>The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell\u201d\u201dand great was its fall.”<\/span>
\n28 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;
\n29 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0for He was teaching them as one<\/i> having authority, and not as their scribes. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0In their book, “How To Make The Right Decisions,” <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

John Arnold and Bert Tompkins relate seven (7) points<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

in achieving <\/span><\/span><\/b>good decision making.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

One of their points was … <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

You base a good decision on the adequate amount of information.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Notice Jesus ends His sermon on the mountain <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

with the word … Therefore.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

He states that pointing back to everything <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

He has just preached to the people.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Our ultimate choice is based on<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

the solid adequate information we have heard from Him.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

I. The Similarities \/ Comparisons In His Invitation<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

1. Foundations are presented in both cases<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

2. Instructions have been given in both cases<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

3. Everyone has an opportunity to hear and respond<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

4. Storms in life come equally upon all people<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

II. The Contrasts In His Invitation<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Responses are different in both cases ( acts upon them \/ does not act upon them)<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Wise man vs. Foolish man <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Foundation of rock vs. Foundation of sand<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Outcomes are different in both cases (did not fall \/ it’s fall was great)<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0QUESTION … Why do people respond to their destruction?<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. They trust in “idle words” of men … Matthew 7:21 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

(it is fully embracing terminology)<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

2. They trust in “religious” activity … Matthew 7:22 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

(it is fully engaging in pious acts)<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

3. They do not trust in Christ alone … Matthew 7:23<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Application …<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

1. Every choice you make is your “testimony”<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

2. Every chosen foundation will determine your life’s<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

direction and eternity<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

3. Every outcome of every person has an effect on the lives of others (vs. 25b, 27b)<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n
