{"id":2442,"date":"2016-06-19T18:37:09","date_gmt":"2016-06-19T22:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/?p=2442"},"modified":"2016-06-19T18:37:09","modified_gmt":"2016-06-19T22:37:09","slug":"do-you-believe-in-the-power-of-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/?p=2442","title":{"rendered":"DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF GOD?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Message by Dr. Gary Jarnagin<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossroadchristianfellowship.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/rec0619-101822.mp3\">rec0619-101822<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Do You Believe in the Power of God?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>1 Corinthians 1: 18, 30-31<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Paul wrote\u00a01 Corinthians to address the diversity of ideas that had crept into the Church and were causing issues.\u00a0 Paul&#8217;s ultimate goal was to unite the Church through focusing on Jesus Christ and how God had shown His power through Jesus Christ. Our passage today is all about the foundation of our belief in Jesus Christ&#8230;AND THE POWER OF GOD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Three<\/strong> <strong>aspects concerning the Power of God:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>1. The<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">message<\/span> of the cross<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2. The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mistake<\/span> of unbelievers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3. The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Messiah<\/span> and His glory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Ultimately the question you will need to answer today is:<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Do you believe in the power of God?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. <strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God&#8211;and righteousness and sanctification and redemption&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0that, as it is written, <i>&#8220;He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>In verse 18, the message of the cross divides men into 2 distinct groups: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>-those who were perishing (those who do not believe)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>-those who believe and are being saved<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>I. What is the message of the cross?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 Corinthians 1:17 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>We see in verse 17 what it is not:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>It is not wisdom of words.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>It is the Gospel!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If the gospel is the power of God, what is the gospel?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you&#8211;unless you believed in vain.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup><\/span><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Death \/ Burial \/ Resurrection of Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>How powerful is this gospel?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The message of the cross is for the entire world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 John 2:1-2 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup><span class=\"ind\">\u00a0My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Romans 1:16 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0The Lord is not slack concerning <i>His<\/i> promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. <span class=\"ind\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For this <i>is<\/i> good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>John 3:16 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The men and women in Corinth and the men and women today say&#8230;REALLY? That&#8217;s it? There has to be more than that! Why would God kill His Son and use the Cross to save the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Why would He do it?<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 Corinthians 1:21 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Because God is pleased with those who believe.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 John 4:8 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Because God is Love.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Because God is rich in Mercy.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Because we are saved by Grace.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The message of the Cross is all about Jesus, for what He has done for us, not about us!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">II. What is the mistake of unbelievers?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<strong>1 Corinthians 1:23 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Today&#8217;s rejection of the gospel is not a new reaction to the gospel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Acts 17:32-34 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, &#8220;We will hear you again on this <i>matter.&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0So Paul departed from among them.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Matthew 13:3-8 (NKJV)<br \/>\n<\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: <span class=\"JesusWords\">&#8220;Behold, a sower went out to sow.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And as he sowed, some <i>seed<\/i> fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.<\/span><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>\u00a0<span class=\"JesusWords\">But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>God needs us to share the gospel so that others can hear about the good news. The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Power of God<\/span> is in the gospel message that we share with others that can save men&#8217;s souls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">III.
