He did things we wouldn\u201d\u2122t do.<\/strong><br \/>\n4. <strong>He hung out with people that we wouldn\u201d\u2122t be seen with.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>He didn\u201d\u2122t worry about being congenial. <\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>He went beyond the comfortable<strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>He broke through the cultural.<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">He Ignited the Controversial<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Woe Is Me!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Matthew 23:1-39 (NKJV) <\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup>Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <\/span><\/sup>saying: &#8220;The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses&#8217; seat. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 <\/span><\/sup>Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, <em>that<\/em> observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 <\/span><\/sup>For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay <em>them<\/em> on men&#8217;s shoulders; but they <em>themselves<\/em> will not move them with one of their fingers. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 <\/span><\/sup>But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 <\/span><\/sup>They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 <\/span><\/sup>greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, &#8216;Rabbi, Rabbi.&#8217; <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 <\/span><\/sup>But you, do not be called &#8216;Rabbi&#8217;; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 <\/span><\/sup>Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 <\/span><\/sup>And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 <\/span><\/sup>But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 <\/span><\/sup>And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 <\/span><\/sup>But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in <em>yourselves,<\/em> nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows&#8217; houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, blind guides, who say, &#8216;Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged <em>to perform it.&#8217;<\/em> <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 <\/span><\/sup>Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 <\/span><\/sup>And, &#8216;Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged <em>to perform it.&#8217;<\/em> <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 <\/span><\/sup>Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 <\/span><\/sup>Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 <\/span><\/sup>He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">22 <\/span><\/sup>And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">23 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier <em>matters<\/em> of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">24 <\/span><\/sup>Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 <\/span><\/sup>Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead <em>men&#8217;s<\/em> bones and all uncleanness. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <\/span><\/sup>Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 <\/span><\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30 <\/span><\/sup>and say, &#8216;If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.&#8217; <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31 <\/span><\/sup>Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32 <\/span><\/sup>Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers&#8217; <em>guilt.<\/em> <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33 <\/span><\/sup>Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34 <\/span><\/sup>Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: <em>some<\/em> of them you will kill and crucify, and <em>some<\/em> of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">35 <\/span><\/sup>that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36 <\/span><\/sup>Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">37 <\/span><\/sup>&#8220;O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under <em>her<\/em> wings, but you were not willing! <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">38 <\/span><\/sup>See!
